Pairings Points

Platform Tennis League's pairings points system considers results from 13,000+ PT League matches. Start point figures are used to mitigate fluctuations in the court pairings process. The purpose is to create an objective system used for determining competitive compatibility. The "pairings" number assists weekly court groupings. It is not a strict guide. Other factors are considered, such as time slot availability, geography choices, variety and maintaining an overall season schedule that keeps players playing on courts where they are the best 25%, middle 50% and worst 25%.

New Players

New players who also play tournaments or men's GCPTA league matches have a "PTI" rating calculated and maintained by the APTA. New players and returning players are initially placed on courts using a "PTI-to-PT League" conversion process. Once a player plays 18 sets, the PT League number is used for court pairings going forward. Other newcomers are initially placed based on previous racket sports experience and adjusted after 18 sets.

Not Part of "Current Standings"

The current league's standings do not include any input from previous leagues. The "pairings points" number is solely used to assist court pairings.

Not a Rating

The pairings points number is not a rating but rather an earned point average which considers a player's:
  • Current League W/L%
  • Current League Strength of Schedule
  • Current League Start Point*
*Start points for a returning player is their ending standings points number from the most recent league in which they completed 18 or more sets. For new players who participate in the GCPTA team league, we use current PTI ratings and convert them to our pairings points system. For new players without PTI ratings, we use an estimate based on previous platform tennis experience, tennis and other racket sport experience. Start point numbers are reevaluated after 18 sets for all players who are new to Platform Tennis League..
