Success Outside of the LeagueThe following are some notable local, regional and national accomplishments by Platform Tennis League players during the 2016-17 season:
Rob Bakker finished the year ranked #20 nationally with Flip Goodspeed (Grand Rapids, MI). Top results were finishing 10th in the Chicago Charities and T19 at the APTA Nationals in Philadelphia. Bakker also played two ranking tournaments with Tyler Fraser. The pair finished 10th in the Boston Open and T7 in Pittsburgh. Fraser finished the year ranked #55 with Jason Love (Chicago, IL). Fraser also won the Hertzel Cup City Open Championships with Luke White. Both Fraser & Bakker were selected to play President's Cup for Region IV (Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky, Western Pennsylvania, Western New York & Canada). Wil Lofgren partnered with his brother Randy and finished the year ranked #47 nationally. The highlight was reaching the R16 of the Midwesterns. They defeated the #11 seeds before losing 6-1, 4-6, 7-5 to the nation's #5 ranked team Scott Kahler and Casey Watt. Thaddeus Reed and Ryan Floth made it to the finals of the 2017 Hertzel Cup. Brian Mitchell made it to the finals of the APTA Nationals 60+ division with partner Fritz Odenbach. |
