The 22-week 2017-18 Fall/Winter league was played at 4 sites: Cincinnati Country Club, Maketewah CC, Glendale Lyceum and Signal Hill Private Court. In all, 1,179 official sets were completed. 354 total courts/matches were completed (avg. 16.09 per week) and 531 hours were played. 135 players participated. On The Court: Tyler Fraser won his first league title by winning 82.98% of his sets and accumulated 2,971 points (adjusted for schedule strength). Rob Bakker was his closest challenger and finished well ahead of a pack of third place challengers. The Ironman award for most sets played went to George Peck with 92. The top female finisher was Teddi Lofgren. Lofgren finished 41st overall, had a 59.18 winning percentage and 792 points (adjusted for schedule strength). Success Outside of the LeagueThe following are some notable local, regional and national accomplishments by Platform Tennis League players during the 2017-18 season:
Rob Bakker and Tyler Fraser finished the year ranked #5 in the APTA's national rankings. The team capped off a spectacular season with a 5th place finish at the APTA Nationals. Their season highlight was winning the Midwesterns APTA National Ranking Tournament. They also finished 2nd in the Indianapolis tournament and in the top 10 in Boston, Long Island, Chicago and Milwaukee. Fraser's busy season also included a 2nd place finish in Hinsdale and top 5 finishes in Philadelphia and Cleveland. All were with Paulo Gonzalez (Chicago). He and Gonzalez finished the season ranked #14 nationally. Lee Lonergan paired with Fraser to win the 2018 Hertzel Cup. This was Lonergan's first "City Open Championship" and Fraser's third (2016 w/Bakker & 2017 w/Luke White). Bob Spencer & Brian Mitchell teamed up to win the GCPTA's Men's D1 tournament. Pat Gilligan & Patrick Shiels finished second in the event. Mitchell also made the final of the Hertzel Cup with partner Rusty Schubert. Schubert played with Ryan Floth and won the Midwesterns 90s event. Olivia Capannari won the GCPTA's D1 tournament with partner Kristen Kronauge. Teddi Lofgren & Sheri Frey were finalists. |
