2023-24 Platform Tennis concluded March 7. Play was conducted over 20 weeks at Glendale Lyceum. This was our 12th annual Fall/Winter league. Final Standings. Taylor Wins First TitleSusie Taylor was the top female finisher among qualifiers (24 sets played). Taylor finished with a 1,090 point average in 25 sets. This was Taylor's first Platform Tennis League title. The prize for winning any of our leagues is free entry into all leagues, platform tennis and pickleball, for 12 months. Overall League WinnerDoug Jones was the overall league winner with a 3,019 point average in 26 sets. Winterhalter is IronmanRalph Winterhalter played 69 total sets to win his second Ironman title. Ellie Halbauer (Cincinnati) and partner Gabriela Niculescu (CT) will play in the APTA National Platform Tennis finals today. The match is scheduled for 10:00AM. The match can be viewed here: APTA Network - Nationals (Live) Halbauer is a former WTA tour player. She reached a high ranking of #260 in the world in tennis. She is currently a racket sports professional at Kenwood Country Club. Niculescu is a 3x APTA Nationals winner. She played on Romania's Fed Cup team and collegiately at USC. She reached a WTA high of 376. The pair defeated the #2 seeds Florentina Hanisch (NJ) and Ana Marija Zubori (CT) 3-6, 6-3, 6-3 in the semifinals. Hanisch is a 3x Nationals champion and Zubori has won it twice. They face #1 seeds and defending champions Lynn Burus (NJ) and Macie Elliot (CT) in the finals. PT Leaguers at NationalsSix Platform Tennis League champions competed at this year's APTA Nationals in Boston. Ellie Halbauer is in the finals. Marie Matrka & Jill Jackson finished in sixth place. Eric West played with Tomas Christian (NJ) and Tyler Fraser played with Adam Morgan (IL). Both West and Fraser reached the quarterfinals. Danny Carollo also played, partnering with Sam Miles (IN). Each has won at least one league title.
Austin Hensley and Wil Lofgren defeated Tyler Fraser and Tony Hobson to win the 2024 Hertzel Cup City Open Platform tennis Championship. A full field of 48 teams competed for this year's title. More Play - PT LeagueHensley, Lofgren and Fraser all have Platform Tennis League histories. Lofgren has won the summer league two times, Fraser was a winter league champion and Hensley was the league's Ironman once. The three players have played a combined 771 official Platform Tennis League sets. Each is a full time racquets professional. Lofgren is the director at Four Bridges Country Club, Fraser is the director at The Camargo Club and Hensley is at Maketewah Country Club and a women's tennis coach at the University of Cincinnati.
