Chris Bowman and Kathy Schneider went 3-0 to push their season winning percentages above 50%. Schneider, now 106 (62.50%), went undefeated on her court with Anne Conway, Martha Capannari and Carlos Canelas. Bowman, now 5-2 (71.43%), won all of his sets with Doug Ucci, Sam Chasnoff and Marie Matrka. Other players going undefeated on courts were Patrick Herrel, John Van Lokeren, Tyler Fraser, Doug Jones, Scott Vaaler, Brian Faig and Mark Snyder. Click for updated standings or week #6 results.
Participation: Participation was high despite steady light rain throughout the night. 77 participated on 17 courts. The league welcomed newcomers Marie Matrka and Tricia Headley. This was Matrka's first time playing paddle tennis. She is the current Cincinnati Met Tennis singles champion and has won the title 7 times. George Peck went undefeated on his court for the third time this season. He improved to 10-3 (76.92%) for the year and is currently in fourth place overall. Yiran Liu stepped up in class and went 3-1 on his 5-player court with Evan Webeler, Rex Cabrera, Greg Carr and Scott Vaaler. Liu is now 12-3 (80.00%) and in third place. Tyler Fraser went 4-0 on his court, moving to 14-5 (73.68%) and sixth place. Players going undefeated on courts were: Doug Jones, Tyler Fraser, Cory Ingle, George Peck, Jamie Jamison, Mary Ucci, Wil Lofgren, Olivia Capannari, Scott Vaaler and Richard Canelas. Participation: The league welcomed four new players this week: Pete Sullivan, Perin Goodman, Anne Conway and Mike Conway. Participation was at the highest level so far this year with 18 courts and 80 sets played. Good luck to Platform Tennis League participant Rob Bakker as he plays in this weekend's APTA Grand Prix tournament in Fairfield, CT. The Patterson Club Open is the first Grand Prix event of the season. Grand Prix events are national ranking tournaments with elevated points (similar to tennis grand slams). Cincinnati's Midwesterns is also an APTA Grand Prix tourney. Bakker, who has been ranked as high as #4 nationally in the past couple of years (with Flip Goodspeed), is partnering with Chicago's Ben McKnight for the event. Scott Kiker went 6-1 in two sessions, improving to 8-2 (80%) for the season. Kiker, last year's "Ironman," is now in sixth place in the overall standings. Players going undefeated on courts were: Will Lofgren, Scott McIntosh, Doug Jones, Scott Kiker, Bob Kooris, Eric Toth and Dave Necessary.
